Q Media - Q. My Q Media product's remote very intermittent and 'flakey', even after changing the batteries?

Answer:

IR is in the non-visible light spectrum, but does still reflect off of shiny surfaces. If you place your Q media product (m2, m3, m4 & m7) on a shiny surface, you need to ensure the front is level or forward of this surface otherwise you will get 'IR bounce'. This is when the IR command being sent from the remote control is reaching the IR receiver on the product, but at the exact same time it receives the same command bouncing (or reflecting) off of the surface and therefore confusing (or cancelling out) the received command/s. Sunlight and low energy CFL type lighting can also play a factor.

It may also be worth changing the battery, and we would recommend using a recognised brand (as there have been differing reports from the field when cheaper alternatives have been used).

Lastly, if you use a non-Apple phone, you can also check the remote to see if there's any IR being expelled. To do this, activate the camera on the phone, point the remote control at the camera, and while viewing the remotes IR window via the screen on the phone, press any button on the remote to see if you get a flash of light from it.
