Emergency Lodging Reimbursement

Always check the customer's contract to verify if ELR is included before discussing these benefits or advising them to place a claim.
Emergency Lodging Reimbursement T's & C's have been updated to state the property eligible may be the primary residence, second home, vacation home, or investment residential property shown on their enrollment. 

We will reimburse up to $1200 in the event the customer experiences one of the below situations in their residence that is beyond their control:
  1. A sudden breakdown of their only air conditioning unit or a sudden breakdown to their only furnace that results in the unit remaining non-operational for 24 hours or more from the time of the first service visit from the Service Professional due to a delay in availability of the required parts needed for completion of the repair; OR
  2. A sudden breakdown in their water pipes that results in the residence being flooded and the removal of the water from the residence by the Service professional is delayed by 24 hours or more from the time the documented service request was placed.
We will also reimburse for lodging expenses (the actual overnight hotel or motel stay) up to $1200 in the even that the customer's residence becomes inhabitable due to events beyond their control. These events are limited to break-in, theft, tornado, hurricane, earthquake, flood, fire, landslide, and mandatory evacuation.
  1. Up to 6 nights maximum $200 per night or 12 nights maximum $100 per night / $1200 maximum per member per 12-month period.
  2. Only 1 Emergency Lodging Supplemental Reimbursement benefit will be paid per claim occurrence and only 1 claim per member per 12-month period.

Definitions

Flooded

An overflowing of water that leaves submerged water in more than 1 room of the above ground living areas of the residence (above the basement).

Hotel/Motel

A bona fide public lodging establishment.

Service Professional

An employee, independent contractor or other hired and approved individual by the Named Insured on this policy to perform service repairs on its behalf for its members.

Uninhabitable

The residence, by reason of an event, is made unfit for use as a residence for a period in excess of 24 consecutive hours or where it is obvious that alternative accommodation is needed either from a safety or health aspect.


Emergency Lodging Supplemental Reimbursement will not pay for loss caused by or resulting from any breakdown to an air conditioning unit or furnace when it is not the only air conditioning unit or furnace servicing the residence. 

Business Rules

  1. ELR Claims are handled by Assurant.
  2. Customers are able to utilize this benefit, if it is included in their warranty, one time per warranty term.
  3. The customer's warranty must be active when an ELR Claim is opened with Assurant.
  4. The claim process is handled by Assurant and we have no records to indicate if a claim has already been processed during the current warranty term. We must probe to verify if the customer has already used their benefit prior to offering it to them as a solution.
  5. If the customer places a claim with Assurant and they are entitled to reimbursement of less than the maximum benefit, the forfeit any remaining benefit.

Processing a Claim

  1. The customer must be advised to contact Assurant at (800) 859-8231, then select Option 2 to begin a new claim.
  2. The customer must advise the Assurant Representative that they are calling to place a claim for the Emergency Lodging Reimbursement.
  3. Our Group Number must be provided to the Assurant Representative.
