Installing KnowIT on to a rooted Android device

Installing KnowIT on to a rooted Android device

If you are looking to install KnowIT on to a non-rooted Android device please see below.

If you wish to access all of KnowITs features on your employees Android device you have to have rooted their device first before you install KnowIT.

Digital Endpoint has provided rooting guides for many popular Android devices which you can see here.

Once you have rooted the device successfully and you can see a new application installed called SuperSU on your employees Android device it means that the device has been rooted.

Depending on the Android device being used, having rooted the device may not be enough to access all of KnowIT's features.

With KnowIT downloaded on to your employee's Android device you need to run the installation file and follow the steps below.

Step 1 - Configure the Android device

Open the phone’s Settings > Security page scroll down to check “Unknown Sources”.

Step 2 - Log into your KnowIT portal and download KnowIT to the device

Log into your KnowIT online portal and click the hamburger menu.  From there, click Tools, then click Install Device Software and choose Android and then click Next.

Step 3 - Install KnowIT on to the Android device

Swipe from the top of the screen down, and tap on the file to run the installation after the download completes.

On the Install screen, tap “Install” to continue.

Tap "Next" in the dialog box that appears to tell SuperSU to try to get root permissions from the device for use with KnowIT.

Depending on the results of KnowIT the software will then run in one of three root modes.  See the articles below for each rooting mode and how to complete installation.

  • Normal - Either you have not rooted your employees Android device before proceeding or you failed to grant root permissions to SuperSU when you were asked during the installation of KnowIT.
  • Limited - Some, but not all root permissions were granted to KnowIT by your employees rooted Android device.  As a result only IM capture can work.  All other listed root features are not available.
  • Full - Your employee's rooted Android device successfully granted all root permissions to KnowIT during installation.  This means that all of the listed root features will work.
If you see the dialog box below it means that full root permissions were granted to KnowIT by the device and all root features will work.

Tap "Restart Now" to restart the device and complete installation.

Step 4 - Activate KnowIT

Type in your KnowIT license code which is listed inside your KnowIT portal and tap "Activate" to activate the product.

The final part of the KnowIT installation is for security purposes.

Once you have activated KnowIT successfully you can tap "Yes" to keep the KnowIT visible on your employees device or you can tap "No" to hide the KnowIT icon.

Step 5 - Start tracking your employee's rooted Android device

Inside your KnowIT portal, click "Finish" now that the software has been activated.

Congratulations!  You should now have downloaded, installed and activated KnowIT on to your employees device.

Please see the articles below to learn how to use and setup the KnowIT dashboard.
