Manipulate Bar Graph

Question Type - Manipulate Bar Graph (#081)

You can create a Manipulate Bar Graph (#081) question from the Create Question page. If you are familiar with our general question creating process, you can skip ahead to Step 5 and continue from there for information specific to the Manipulate Bar Graph (#081) question.

1. Name your question in the space provided and click the Save button.


2. If desired, add a stimulus to accompany the question in the space provided by clicking the Blue Pencil button and opening your Rich Text Editor. You can add text, audio, video, or images.  Click the OK button upon completion. You can name this tab or you can add a new tab with an alternative stimulus by clicking the (+) button.


3. Enter the instructions and/or prompts in the space provided. If desired, change the Point value for the question.


4. Tag learning standards to your question by clicking the Tags tab. For more information about Tagging Standards, click here. Click the Show More button to see additional options. If desired, add a Rubric, Settings, Solutions, and Hints. For more information about these options, please click here.


5. Enter the information for your bar graph in the spaces provided.


6. To edit the settings of your question, click on the Settings Gear.
  1. Labels and values: Add your Y Max and Y Min values in the spaces provided. To add an additional bar, click the + Add Bar button.  To delete a bar, click the red (x) button. Edit your bar Labels, add the Initial Value, and add the Answer. If you would like for students not to be able to manipulate a particular bar, checkbox the Disable Drag option for that bar.
  2. Color: Choose a color for the bars. Alternatively, you can use the Random option if you want each bar to be a random, different color.
  3. Scoring: You can set the answer precision of student responses. In terms of grading, by default this question is graded automatically, but you can decide to make your question teacher-graded or enable all or none scoring.
  4. Additional options: The Snap to Grid option makes it so students can only set the graph to be in line with the numbers on the y axis. The Show Decimal Values option allows students to set the graph at points between the numbers on the y axis.
