Unique ID Regions

Overview

You can use a Unique ID Region to populate sequential identifiers, such as an invoice number or serial number.
Before you can use a Unique ID Region in your Form, you must create a Unique ID counter in the Field2Base Portal. The Unique ID Region will use this counter to populate the next Unique ID into your Form. Please see the article on Managing Unique lDs in the Portal for details on how to create or edit your Unique ID counters.

Creating a Unique ID Region in Forms Designer

Once the Unique ID counter that you want to use has been created in the Portal, you are ready to create a Unique ID Region on your Form. Populating a Unique ID does require the device to be able to connect to the Field2Base system. If the Unique ID Region is set as required, the Form will not be sent without that Unique ID. The User will be prompted to retry when they have an active connection and can receive the next available ID from the specified counter.

1. Create a Unique ID Region.

2. Open the Unique ID tab to set the options for your Unique ID Region. 

A. Unique ID Trigger - You can set the trigger for when the Unique ID will be populated in the Region.
  1. When the form draft is started (default) - The next Unique ID will be populated when the Form is initially opened.
  2. When the form draft is sent - The next Unique ID will be populated when the Form is sent. You cannot set a Unique ID Region as required if it is being populated during form sending since form validation is completed before sending. 
  3. The first time a region changes - The next Unique ID will be populated the first time the trigger Region (B) is changed. For example, if you only want a Unique ID to be populated when a Form is signed, you could set the signature Region as the trigger Region.
  4. Every time a region changes - The next Unique ID will be populated every time the trigger Region (B) is changed. The next Unique ID This will continue to be populated each time the trigger Region is changed.
B. Trigger region - This field is enabled once you select a Unique ID Trigger (A) that uses a trigger Region. Click on the > button to to select the desired trigger Region.

C. Unique ID Source  - You must define the source for your Unique ID in this section.
  1. Use a static counter name (default) - Enter the Unique ID counter name that you created in the Portal.
  2. Choose the counter dynamically using a region value - Click the > button to select the Region value that contains the Unique ID counter name. The > button will be enabled once you select this option. This option is useful if you have several counters that you want to use in the same Region. For example, you could have Unique ID counters for separate departments that you want to populate depending on which department is chosen from a Datasource Region.
D. Allow users to enter a new value - By default, Unique ID Regions cannot be changed by the user. Check this option if you want to give Users the ability to change the value in the Unique ID Region. For example, if there is no Internet access for calling the Unique ID web service so you allow Users to enter a placeholder.
