How Download Incentives Work

How Download Incentives Work

Before You Begin

Make sure to have an adequate understanding of Offer Locker by viewing our How Offer Locker Works article.

What's The Point?

Encouraging users to download an app requires effort and strategy. Many facilities incentivize their customers to download their app by promoting an offer or deal that is only available within the app. Offer Locker has functionality built specifically for this purpose called Download Incentives (formerly Onboarding Offers). Read on for the details of how these special offers are only available to new downloaders of a Gallus Golf custom-branded mobile app, along with how to set one up.

User Experience

After an onboarding offer has been set up, it will display a dialogue like the following the next time a user opens your app:

At this point, the user can either:
  1. Enter their information to register for the Offer Locker
  2. Select No Thanks, which will migrate them to the home screen of your app. If they choose this option, they can always tap the Offer Locker button on the app's home screen to enter their information at that time.
From there, the Download Incentive performs as a normal Offer Locker offer would. Click here for more detail on the redemption process.

The Logic Of A Download Incentive

Onboarding offers will only display to a person that has not completed either of the following:
  1. Viewed a previous onboarding offer
  2. Redeemed a previous onboarding offer
For some more help understanding this, let's look at some scenarios:

Scenario 1

On July 1, 2020, an onboarding offer is created for a free bucket of range balls with an expiration date of July 30, 2020. Johnny Appleseed downloads the app, enters his email in the offer locker, and views the offer. On August 1, 2020, a new onboarding offer is created by the app's manager for 10% off the customer's next order at the Rocket Man Grill with an expiration of August 31, 2020.

On August 4, 2020, Johnny opens his Offer Locker but doesn't see either of the offers, because the first onboarding offer is expired and the second is automatically hidden from his view after he used the first offer.

Scenario 2

On July 1, 2020, an onboarding offer is created for a free bucket of range balls with an expiration date of August 1, 2020. Johnny Appleseed downloads the app, gets an opportunity to enter his information, but chooses to wait until later to do so.

He forgets to do it until August 6, 2020, six days after the first offer expired and six days after the new 10% off your next order from Scenario 1 went into effect. He enters his information, sees the 10% off coupon, but chooses to wait once again.

Forgetful Johnny doesn't use his offer before the August 31 cut-off date. Unknown to Johnny, the app's manager has added a new onboarding offer for a free shirt with the purchase of an 18-hole round, valid September 1, 2020-September 30, 2020.

When Johnny goes in to see if there are any offers in his Offer Locker, the previous 10% off coupon is gone (as it has expired) and the new free t-shirt offer is hidden from his view since he already viewed a previous onboarding offer.

Setting Up A Download Incentive

  1. Log into your Gallus Golf admin dashboard.
  2. Click the Offer Locker tile.

  3. On the ensuing page, click Download Incentive in the top-right.

  4. If you already have a Download Incentive set up, click Create New Incentive. Otherwise, proceed to the next step.

  5. Enter the following information before clicking Save in the bottom-left:

      1. Offer Quantity
        1. How many times should each user be able to redeem this offer?
      2. Offer Image
        1. Either upload your own image at a 3:2 ratio (i.e., 1200x800 px in jpeg or png) or choose from our library of stock photos.
      3. Offer Title
        1. The name of your offer, which will appear on the main Offer Locker page and the individual offer.
      4. Offer Description
        1. A brief summary of the offer and any necessary disclaimers associated with it. This text only appears on the individual offer page.
      5. Onboarding Ends On
        1. The final day new downloaders will gain access to the offer. (The last day it's a Download Incentive.)
      6. Offer Ends On
        1. The final day the offer will show up in the Offer Locker section of your app. (It disappears the next day for the user.)
        2. This field is not mandatory- it can be left blank, which allows the offer to be available continuously to users that have access to it.
  6. DONE! Reports on the Download Incentive can always be viewed in the main Offer Locker section.
