Android User Guide - Recording

Android User Guide - Recording

  • To start recording using the Sonocent Recorder App; press the record button (1) on the main file list screen.

  • Rather than a continuous audio stream, you'll see that we break up the audio into manageable chunks (1).
  • Whenever the topic changes add a section break using the button (2). Sections are much like index marks or bookmarks on a traditional recorder.
  • When you hear something important or that you want to come back to, use the colour circle buttons (3)
  • If the whole section is important then use the colour square buttons (4) to colour the entire section.
  • Tap (5) to add any text notes - don't do this if it will distract you from listening.

  • You can take photographs or insert pictures from your device to accompany your recording.
  • You get one image per section - we'll insert new sections if you take more than one picture.
  • Swipe right on the screen to view images.
  • Tap on the top button (1) to take a photo or on the bottom button (2) to add an image from your device.

Add PDF pages

  • You can add PDF pages to go alongside your recording. As with other images, you can have one PDF page per section.
  • You can add the file directly from your device's internal storage or from a Cloud app. Your options will depend on your device's model, and what apps you have installed. Please note, that our PDF import feature is only available on devices that are running Android 5.0 or later.

To add a PDF page:

  • Tap the top-right button ('Add a PDF page') in the Image Pane.
  • Browse to the PDF file you want to use and select it. Then tap a page to add it to your recording.
  • Once you've added a page, the PDF file will be associated with your recording from then on.
  • Tapping the 'Add a PDF page' button again will let you add additional pages from the same PDF file into other sections.
  • For quicker discovery, the page viewer automatically scrolls to (and highlights) the next page, while also greying out the pages prior to it.

Changing the associated PDF file:

  • To add pages from a different PDF file, you can change the PDF file that is associated with you recording by tapping 'Choose PDF' from the settings (three dots) button.
  • On smaller screens, 'Choose PDF' can be found in the Options Menu.
  • You can also change the associated PDF file by tapping the folder icon in the top-right corner of the PDF page picker.
  • You can change the PDF file as many times as you want, allowing you to mix pages from multiple different PDF files in one single recording.

  • After you've associated a PDF file to your project, an additional 'Add a PDF page' button (1) will be displayed at the bottom of the recording screen.
  • This button will only show when the section doesn't yet have any image or PDF page added to it.
  • Clicking the button will take you straight to the PDF page viewer, where you can pick a page to add to the section.
  • The button will not show if you have disabled 'Show Image Preview' in the app Settings.

Glance Mode

  • Glance Mode simplifies the interface but still allows you to colour audio chunks and add sections.
  • To move into Glance Mode press the 'eye' button on the toolbar. If you are not already recording audio then recording will resume when you enter Glance Mode.
  • On smaller screens Glance Mode is accessible from the Options Menu button.

  • The information message at the bottom of the screen will disappear after 30 seconds; to see it again just click the question mark button (1).
  • Double Tap the screen to colour the audio chunk; a coloured circle appears on screen (2).
  • You can change the colour being used in settings (3).
  • By default continuous colouring is switched on, so all subsequent chunks will be coloured. You can turn this off in the main settings button on the file list screen.
  • Tap the screen once to add a section break; you'll see the section counter increase (4).
  • To Exit Glance Mode hit the back arrow (5).
