7. Capture My Presentation - Use Audio Notetaker to record yourself practising a presentation

You can record yourself giving a presentation, displaying the slides within Audio Notetaker or from within PowerPoint.

To record in Audio Notetaker you will need to import your slides / images first.

If you do not have a Project tab, open a new one with '+' tab or App Menu>New.

Click the drop-down arrow below the Record button the Record From and select your microphone from the input devices listed.

To start recording use the Tools button on the toolbar and select Presentation Capture.

You can then choose how you would like to record your presentation:

Recording from PowerPoint:

  1. Select the first radio button, Capture slides from PowerPoint, and press Start.
  2. Audio Notetaker will then wait for you to start a PowerPoint slideshow.

  3. Open your PowerPoint Presentation, and begin your slide show (F5)
  4. Deliver your presentation; you can move between slides, skip slides and move back to earlier slides, see the 3 Second Rule below.
  5. If you start a second PowerPoint presentation then Audio Notetaker will pause recording until you start the next presentation.
  6. As you record Audio Notetaker displays a progress bar showing how many slides you have captured.

  7. Once you have finished the presentation, navigate back to Audio Notetaker and click the Finish button. Your slides and audio will be imported into a new workspace tab (If you recorded several presentations then each one will appear in their own workspace).
  8. Fill in the Title, Topic and Speaker in the Tagging Fields and use the Save button  or App Menu>Save As to save the recording as an Audio Notetaker Project.

Recording in Full Screen with Audio Notetaker:

You need to have slides or images in the current document in order to use Audio Notetaker to display your slides.

  1. Select the second radio button, Display slides using Audio Notetaker.
  2. Audio Notetaker will display your slides in a full screen.
  3. Begin giving your presentation; you can move between slides, skip slides and move back to earlier slides, see the 3 Second Rule below.
  4. We add a blank slide at the end of the presentation. Moving past this last slide will stop recording and return you to your workspace.
  5. If you want to end your presentation before the last slide then press Esc.
  6. Fill in the Title, Topic and Speaker in the Tagging Fields and use the Save button  or App Menu>Save As to save the recording as an Audio Notetaker Project.

The 3 Second Rule

You may want to skip backwards through your slides whilst presenting. To avoid these slides being added into your recording for a second time, there is a "three second rule": If you display a previously-shown slide for less than 3 seconds, it is not added in again. It also ignores any slides you don't show at all, for example if you exit the presentation early.

There is a tick-box on the bottom left of the dialog box that comes up when you choose Record Presentation, if ticked, any slide not shown will be added to the recording anyway, but with no associated audio. By default this option is always ticked as it is easier to delete unwanted slides afterwards than add them manually.
