Reference Guide: 8 Audio Notetaker Files

As well as supporting its import and export formats, Audio Notetaker has its own file format for saving the contents of a Workspace Tab, which it calls a “Project”. An Audio Notetaker document contains all the data in a workspace – images, text, audio sections and chunks with all their colouring and any volume, speed and Audio Clean up and Voice effects settings.

There are Three formats supported:

  1. Version 1 'Annotation' “.ant” format.
  2. The newer 'Rich Audio Notes' “.ran” format introduced with version 2.
  3. The Sonocent recorders ".mran" format.

You cannot save to the .mran format and it’s best to only save to the new “.ran” format. Remember, everyone can upgrade to the latest version for free, so there’s no reason to want to save as a version 1 file.
