How to Scan Students with the GTCF MobileScan App

**The following instructions apply to both Android and iOS**

Before Getting Started: 

  1. First, log in to the app. Related Article: Logging Into The GTCF MobileScan App
  2. A fair must be selected. Need help selecting a fair? Related Article: Selecting a Fair
  3. Confirm the end-user email is correct at the top of the 'Scan' screen. Related Article:  How to Set Up Your Profile
  4. Confirm the correct fair (and institute for 'Scanning Included' events) appear at the top of the page:


Navigating the Scan Page:

There are five ways to scan students:  Scan and Qualify,  Scan, Rapid Scan, Manual Entry, and Offline.

Scan and Qualify



  1. Tap the 'Scan and Qualify' checkbox to enable this mode.
  2. Barcodes will scan as soon as they are in the camera frame.
  3. The scan chime and vibration will confirm acceptance of the scan.
  4. Student data will appear on the 'Qualify Lead' screen for reference.  
  5. Ranking options are displayed for selection.
  6. ‘Rep Insights’ box is available for notes.
  7. The last scanned barcode will list at the bottom of the screen.



Scan



  1. Uncheck both the 'Scan and Qualify' checkbox and 'Rapid Scan' checkbox to enable this mode.
  2. Tap 'Touch To Scan' to open the device's camera.
  3. Barcodes are scanned as soon as they are in the camera frame
  4. The scan chime and vibration will confirm acceptance of the scan.
  5. Scans are saved immediately without the 'Qualify Lead' step.
  6. Qualify leads later via the 'View Leads' screen.
  7. The last scanned barcode will list at the bottom of the screen.
  8. After a scan is accepted, the app returns to the scan screen

Rapid Scan - (Use this method when the table is busy)


  1. By default, Rapid Scan is disabled. Tap the checkbox to enable it.
  2. Tap 'Touch To Scan' to open the device's camera.
  3. Barcodes are scanned as soon as they are in the camera frame.
  4. The scan chime and vibration will confirm acceptance of the scan.
  5. Scans are saved immediately without the 'Qualify Lead' step.
  6. Camera reopens after each scan, eliminating the need for tapping the icon for each scan.
  7. To exit Rapid Scan, tap 'Back', and the app will return to the scan screen.
  8. The last scanned barcode will list at the bottom of the screen.

Manual Entry



  1. Use to enter barcodes when lighting or the condition of the barcode prohibits the scan from capturing.
  2. Type in the number underneath the student’s barcode and hit ‘Accept’.
  3. The scan chime and vibration will confirm acceptance of the scan.
  4. The last scanned barcode will list at the bottom of the screen.



Offline Scanning




Offline mode will activate if internet is spotty or unavailable for any reason. No student data will appear on the screen when scanning offline, but student data is still captured. ‘Rep Insights’ and 'Lead Rank' are still available. 


After scanning, be sure to upload the scans/leads with a Wi-Fi/Cellular Data connection. Related Article: How To Upload Leads
