How can I stay safe whilst using the Rebel Homestay Network?

We take safety very seriously and want to do everything we can to ensure you have as safe a time as possible. Closer to COP26 Rebellion we will be offering the following to all users:

  • Live troubleshooting and safety support

  • User safety guides

  • COVID-19 Safety advice

In the meantime we recommend the following safety advice and tips:

  • Do your homework before travelling. Review profiles carefully. Check whether the profile has been verified through social media, their employer’s website, and/or Government ID. Have a Zoom/virtual call before travelling.

  • Trust your instincts. If a person, situation or profile seems unsafe for any reason, move on. Don’t worry about seeming rude. Be clear about your boundaries and don’t be shy about stating them.

  • Have a backup plan. Know your options. If something doesn’t work out with your host, or if they misrepresented themselves or their home, make sure you have an alternative place to stay. Identify the nearest hostel or hotel, or have a backup host in place before you go. Research how to get to and from your host options.

  • Share your plans with someone you trust before you travel and include key info like dates and contact numbers.

Leave a reference to let other travellers know about your experiences with the people you meet. Be honest and clear.
