HYON Connect Support

How can I stay safe when dropping off or picking up items, especially when it comes to COVID-19?

Most people are now comfortable with contactless doorstep pickup and drop off, but be sure to discuss this with your seller, owner or buyer while arranging the exchange of items. Here are some best practices we recommend that all users adhere to:

SAFETY (COVID-19)

  • Clean and disinfect the surfaces of items as both part of a pick-up request, or when an item is sold and is being made available for a buyer to pick-up.

  • Thoroughly wash hands immediately prior to meeting another Hyon customer.

  • Mask up for any meeting scheduled through the Hyon platform.

  • Maintain a 6 foot distance between yourself and another Hyon customer during a pick-up or drop-off interaction.

  • Reschedule the interaction with another Hyon customer if you have been told by the public health authority that you may have been exposed to Covid-19 and need to self-isolate or quarantine for any reason including: returning from travel outside of Canada, have been exposed to someone who has or is suspected to have Covid-19 or if you are experiencing any of the following symptoms: cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, temperature equal to or above 38 degrees, chills, fatigue or weakness, muscle or body aches, new loss of smell or taste, headache, abdominal pain, vomiting or feeling very unwell.

SECURITY

  • Sellers in the Hyon platform have been through a verification process. This includes our team having government issued photo identification on file for each seller. You can provide items with ease knowing that your seller is acting with integrity and working hard to recirculate your items back into the community. Purchasing from a HYON verified seller ensures that you are buying from someone your community trusts.

  • Owners providing items into the Hyon platform may not be just our friends and family…. BUT... we are not currently marketing or advertising to the general public. We are observing that new owners are coming as a result of word of mouth. For now, this is something that we are proud of as we’re seeing tremendous local support. This also provides a layer of security as we’re not driving traffic from strangers with unrealistic expectations or an intent to violate our services.

  • Buyers are strangers to our platform and are likely strangers to you. For this reason, we suggest the following protocols when arranging an item pick-up or drop-off:

    • Share any meeting details with a friend or family member. We suggest providing the date, time and location of any pick-ups or drop-offs. In addition, our team recommends sending a message or call out to this contact to confirm that you are entering the location and again when you have left.

    • Make a note of the interaction with this person. Do you have any thoughts you’d like to share with our team so we can help facilitate this process?

    • Feel free to share a bit about Hyon. If a buyer becomes an owner or a seller themselves, you can start to rest easy knowing that you’re creating a more trusted network.

  • Cart purchases help to keep transactions honest and safe for the parties involved. No cash trading hands, no e-transfers unaccounted for and no credit card information stored. The HYON team has witnessed transactions being taken offline which has resulted in one of two scenarios:

  1. The item sold for more than what was reported and the owner was left shortchanged.

  2. The item wasn’t paid for before arranging pickup. The seller was cut out of the transaction when the owner and buyer negotiated a deal in person.

  • Reporting specific individuals and/or experiences to our team is the best way for us to observe how we can help. If you have anything to share that could help you feel more secure or improve the future of our service please reach out.
