Installing Mercury

Requirements

Microsoft Windows 64-bit (Windows 7 or higher)
.NET Desktop Runtime 6.02 or higher (can be automatically installed with Mercury if needed)
If installing on a server: Windows Server 2016 or higher

If you’re installing a trial version, there are no restrictions or limitations, and no credit card is required.

Some Background
Report layouts and other metadata are kept in an Azure SQL database. Each company’s Mercury report-layout database is isolated from all others.  No one else can see yours, and you can’t see anyone else’s. Mercury does NOT keep, or make changes to, any of your production data.

Running Mercury

If you are brand new to Mercury, you will see a demo environment with connections to several types of sample database platforms and a dozen or so pre-built reports.

If your company already uses Mercury, you will bypass the demo environment and -- assuming your company has added you as a user -- can immediately start running and analyzing your company’s reports.   (You will still be able to connect to the demo environment later, if you wish.)

Based on your needs, download the appropriate installer(s) from the website:

Installation

Description

EXE Setup
Installs Mercury, plus:
(i) Installs the proper .NET version (if needed), and 
(ii) Optionally installs support for running Crystal reports from within Mercury
MSI Setup 
Installs only Mercury; does not include .NET or Crystal support.
The downloads page offers separate links to these other components if you want to install them yourself.
Zip file 
Contains the EXE setup.  If you have difficulty in downloading the EXE or MSI version above due to security reasons, you can try the zip file.  Once downloaded, extract the embedded EXE and run it.
Crystal Reports
Crystal Reports: if you want to run Crystal Reports from within Mercury, this version of the Crystal runtime is needed.
If you use the EXE installer, it will handle both Crystal (if you specify) and .NET for you automatically. You only need this download if you are using the MSI installer and Mercury complains that something is missing.
.NET Framework 
Microsoft’s .NET Framework downloads page, where you can select the framework version you want.

Installation Steps

The example below is for the EXE installer.

Launch the installer.  For the EXE you’ll see the following screen:


Read the License Agreement if you wish, and make sure “I agree…” is checked.

Optional: Check “Install Support for Crystal Reports” if you want to run Crystal reports from within Mercury.  (If you forget to do this now and need it later, you can re-run the setup, or you can download the Crystal Support installer separately, as outlined above.) 

Optional: If you want to specify the folder on your PC where Mercury is installed (the default as of this writing is C:\Program Files\HSalimCo\Mercury), click the Options button: 


Enter or browse to your desired folder and click [OK].  You’ll be returned to the main installation screen.

On the main installation screen, click [Install].


Once your installation is completed, you will see the following:

Now What?

You’re ready to start using Mercury.  Launch the program, choose a report, and run.

Note: If your company already uses Mercury, and you don’t see any reports available -- you might see “No reports available” or “No data found” instead -- this means that your company’s Mercury administrator has not yet added you as a Mercury user.  Contact your company’s Mercury administrator.
