Ribbon Menus

Mercury uses standard Microsoft-style ribbon menus for performing actions, specifying settings, and other application options.

Some ribbons are always available; others may change depending on what you’re doing in Mercury at the time.

This article discusses ways you can customize the appearance of your ribbons - not what the ribbons themselves do.
  • Minimizing the ribbon
  • Customizing the ribbon contents
  • Choosing a ribbon style

For details on the specific Mercury features presented by each ribbon, see Main Window > Ribbons.

Minimizing the Ribbon

You can minimize the ribbon when you’re not using it; this will give you more room for your report-list and report results.  There are two ways to minimize (and restore) the ribbon.

Minimizing via Right-Click

  • Right-click an empty area near the top of the screen near the ribbon tabs.  (Depending on your Windows configuration, you may have to do two right-clicks.)

  • Choose Minimize the Ribbon

Follow the same steps to reverse the process.

Minimizing via Minimize/Maximize Icon

  • In the upper right area of the main window there is a small upward-pointing angle (like an upside down "V"). Click on this to minimize the ribbon.

It changes to a downward-pointing angle.  Click to maximize ("restore") the ribbon.

Customizing the Ribbon

You can determine which controls and buttons are displayed in your ribbon menus. Add items, remove items, and change the order as you wish.

  • Right-click an empty area near the top of the screen near the ribbon tabs.  (Depending on your Windows configuration, you may have to do two right-clicks).

  • Choose "Customize Ribbon".

You’ll see a window similar to the following.

  • The left side contains available commands.  You can change the set of commands shown using the Choose commands from drop down above the list.
  • The right side shows you the available ribbons, their sections, and commands - expand an item to see what it contains.
  • Move an item between the left ("available") to right ("on the ribbon") by highlighting it and then clicking a left- or right- arrow between the lists. (Arrows will be enabled or disabled depending on the item that you’re trying to move.)
  • Change the order of your ribbon commands by using the up/down arrows between the lists,

Changing the Ribbon Style

Mercury offers three different ribbon styles make navigating and using the application more efficient based on your device’s screen size.

To change the ribbon style:

  1. Click on the "ribbon style" drop down in the upper right of the main window.

  1. Choose from the following.
  • Classic for a PC laptop or desktop.  This is the full-size ribbon and the default style.
  • Tablet for a smallish tablet-sized screen such as an iPad or a Galaxy.
  • Slim for the most compact arrangement, best for mobile phones.
