What they
are
Many parishes
have found that evangelizing is not a one-size-fits-all exercise. People come
to the Lord at different points in their lives, for different reasons. To truly comprehend a person’s spiritual growth, church staff have found that understanding
each person’s talents - be it skills, interests, charisms, or strengths - help the individual and the church community at large. By naming
these assets, people can begin to assess and measure exactly what God has
gifted them with. These four categories of talents are based on discussions with several church leaders and staff, who use one or more of these labels in defining people's attributes. We've designed the Mission Suite to be flexible enough to manage each type of talent, based on an organization's faith structure.
Note: We have included Charisms from The Called & Gifted™ Discernment Process, and Strengths from Clifton's Strengthsfinder© as many parishes have adopted these structures in identifying charisms and strengths.
Why they matter
These data
points are incredibly useful in your evangelization and discipleship programs. Once they are assigned, the talents can be reviewed and utilized
where they are needed. In addition, each person will become more conscious of
their unique gifts and have a better idea of how they can be used to serve the
church and its greater community. With this information, you can start finding people
based on specific attributes. This will give you an overall picture of what skills
or gifts the active participants have, and which skills or gifts are currently not
represented. It also will help “tell the story” of an individual’s faith
journey as they hone their current skills and take on new challenges (maybe as
potential leaders!).
How to
request them from participants and volunteers
Most skills,
interests, and the like are gleaned from self-evaluation, conversations with others, or maybe
how a person is presently serving in the church or elsewhere. The Mission Suite
has designed an easy way to ask for specific skills, interests, strengths, or
spiritual gifts by creating a detailed list under each of these items. If a
certain item is not currently in a specific list, it can be added. Refer to Adding
Skills, Interests, Charisms, or Strengths sections to the Registration Form below.
Making the data
work for you
As an
evangelization leader, you can begin to collect and maintain this information
on an individual level to keep the evangelization funnel “primed.” Through Find
People in the Inform module, you can create a search to find lists of the
skills and interests of parishioners and those who are just beginning to be curious
about the faith.
