About
This article covers manually modifying items in bulk using the Global Item Modification wizard.
When Should I Use the Global Item Modification Wizard?
The Global Item Modification wizard is useful when you have a handful (or several handfuls) of items that need one or more of the following changed, but it'd be too time-consuming to look the item records up one at a time:
- Item Type
- Home Location
- Item Categories
- Item Library
- Price
- Shadowed status
For example, staff may want to use this wizard when taking items off their "new" shelf and putting them into regular circulation (changing their item type and home location) or when correcting a cataloging error, like forgetting to select item cat1 when cataloging a cart of items or accidentally shadowing them.
When Should I Request Assistance?
If the amount of items you need to modify numbers in the
hundreds or thousands please
open a ticket to see if the sys admins can assist you. They may be able to reduce your workload on the project significantly if not entirely.
Modifying Items in Bulk (Globally)
To modify your items in bulk:
1. Open the Global Item Modification wizard (Cataloging module > Item Maintenance toolbar > Global Item Modification).
2. Decide which field(s) you want to modify.
3. From that field(s) drop-down, select what you want the new value to be, e.g. if I'm taking items off the "new" shelf and putting them into regular circulation, I may want all the items to have an item type of 28DAY and a home location of STACKS (screenshot below).
4. Leave the fields you don't want modified alone - they'll have ">>Will not be modified" selected by default.
5. Scan the items you want modified. A list of the modified items will appear below.
6. The last item scanned (or any item you highlight) will display and indicate which fields were modified.
7. To make another, different set of changes in bulk, click Reset at the bottom of the screen.
8. You can now select the new values you want and scan the items you want modified.
Once finished, close the wizard.
