How can I project lyrics when using SongSelect charts?
SongSelect makes songs available as lyrics as well as chord charts available in a PDF format. When you import a song into OnSong from SongSelect, OnSong imports both the lyrics as the song content, and the PDF chart for display on the iPad screen. OnSong lyrics projection works best with text-based chord charts, but the PDF content received from SongSelect can still be used for lyrics projection with a little extra setup.
Because the chord chart is displayed as a PDF file, you cannot simply tap on the lyrics you want to display. Here are a few ways that you can use to project lyrics from SongSelect charts.
Download ChordPro
SongSelect has recently introduced the ability to download charts in the ChordPro format. This is only available for SongSelect Premium subscribers and must be done through the SongSelect website. We've put together this video tutorial on how to download ChordPro charts into your OnSong library for easy use with lyrics projection.
Preview Widget
Open the External Video Menu by tapping on the TV icon in the menubar. At the bottom of this menu is the Preview Widget section. Tap on the "power" icon to the right to turn it on. You can then adjust the opacity of the widget using the slider. You can tap on the preview widget to enter Editing Mode where buttons appear in the corners. In this mode you can tap and drag to move the widget, or tap and pinch with two fingers to change the size of the widget. You can learn about other functions in the user manual.
If you wait a moment, the buttons disappear and you are then in Control Mode. You can then swipe in all four directions to move section to section. The name of the section and stanza appears in the preview widget and a few moments later, the section will change for projection. This is a great way to see what is on the screen for the congregation while also navigating the slides.
Slide Actions
If you are using a foot pedal, or want to tap through your sections of content, you can configure the Next/Previous Slide actions. To do this by touching the corners of your song viewer, tap on the gear icon in the upper right corner to open the Utilities Menu and then tap Editors to open Navigation. Next, tap on the Screen Tab at the bottom. You can then tap on the corners of the graphic to Choose Action for Hot Corners. Choose the Next Slide action for one corner and the Previous Slide for the other and then close the screen. You can now tap on those corners in the Song Viewer to navigate through your song lyrics.
You can also assign these actions to Foot Pedals. To do this, tap on the foot pedal icon in the Menubar to open the Foot Pedal Setup screen. You can then tap on the pedal on the screen, or press the foot pedal you have paired with your device to Assign Actions. Again, choose the Next Slide and Previous Slide actions to display lyrics while viewing an imported file in the Song Viewer.
