CodeMeter Network License Setup (Floating License)

CodeMeter Network License Setup (Floating License)

CodeMeter Network License Setup (Floating License)

NOTE: Installation of the floating license option may require an IT specialist who is familiar with the network security on your particular network. Firewalls and other factors such as port blocking can hinder the installation of a floating license.

Outline

It is necessary to install the Server-side first, then the Client side. There are two sections below. Also, to assist in monitoring the license use, the last (third) section outlines how to determine this.

- Server Installation
- Client Installation
- Determining which Client is using the license/licenses

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Server Installation

If the "Server" is also running OPTICAM/OPTICAM Classic, CodeMeter will be installed automatically. However, this is not typical, as most license servers are managed on a dedicated file server (or virtual server). See our other Knowledgebase article "Using a CodeMeter network license in a Virtualized Server Environment" for more information on this.

- Download the latest version of the CodeMeter app from: https://www.wibu.com/support/user/user-software.html

- Install the app using the SETUP app. Ensure ALL features are set to "Entire feature will be installed on local hard drive" for each option (example below):

Note: Certain firewall settings may keep the client from connecting to the server, make sure the network settings are enabled during installation of the CodeMeter program to enable CodeMeter to get past the firewall.

- After installation, you should see CodeMeter running in the System Tray:

... or you can launch it by searching in the Windows "Type here to search" edit box on the taskbar - search for "CodeMeter Control Center".

This will show this dialog. You may initially have no licenses listed in the left pane (this shows two with their associated serial numbers):

- Insert the USB Dongle into the Server's USB port. The dongle is a red, thumb-sized device. It will appear in the lefthand pane (its serial number will be listed).

- Click the "WebAdmin" button. A webpage similar to below will appear:

The entries listed on the license will most likely be fewer (this is a full dealer license image above). Note the date of the license expiry is also shown.
- Click "Configuration", then "Server".

- "Enable" both items shown below:

- Click "Apply".

The server installation is now complete.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Client Installation

Install OPTICAM/OPTICAM Classic or Nucleo onto each client PC.

If you wish to just install the CodeMeter application stand-alone, without installing OPTICAM, download CodeMeter from:

... otherwise, CodeMeter will be automatically installed on each PC with OPTICAM/OPTICAM Classic.
NOTE: Both the Server Versions and Client Versions must match.  Because this is 3rd Party software, we do not always stay current with their latest release.  It is required that you make sure you are updated to the same version.

After installation, you should see CodeMeter running in the System Tray:

... or you can launch it by searching in the Windows "Type here to search" edit box on the taskbar - search for "CodeMeter Control Center".

This will show this dialog. You most likely will have no licenses listed in the left pane.

- Click the "WebAdmin" button. A webpage similar to below will appear:

- Click "Configuration", then "Basic".

This page will appear:

- Click "add new Server".

- Enter the License Server's IP address or hostname:

- for our example, this is 192.168.50.68 - but your IP or hostname will (very likely) be differentAsk IT for this information.

- Click "Add", then use the "up arrow" icon circled below to move it to the top of the list:

- Click "Apply".
- Look at the bottom of the web page where it lists the current server:

- Click the orange icon:

If successful, the Server will appear in the list. In our case the hostname is CAMTEK-DEVELOPMENT at the same IP we entered. Sometimes it is necessary to check the "Use IP-Address" checkbox. Select the server and click "Apply".

The webpage will reload:

Note the web address (circled) now lists the contents of the CodeMeter on the server (it may be an IP address or hostname).

The client installation is now complete, launch OPTICAM/OPTICAM Classic. You should not get any error message similar to "missing security device". If you do, it is likely you are trying to launch a Camtek module or post-processor that is not currently licensed (contact our Support Dept.).

To check if your license server is accessible, you can view the licenses on the server:

- Click "License Monitoring":

This will list the licenses and number of instances that can be used concurrently. This shows 3 licenses above.
Launching OPITCAM on a client results in the used-count changing (refresh the webpage after launch):

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Determining which Client is using the license/licenses

From time to time, you may want to check who is using a license - especially if you have one seat floating and need to use it, but another user has the OPTICAM/OPTICAM Classic application open and idle. To do so, go to "License Monitoring -> Sessions":

This will list the workstation(s) using the license (this happens to be the same PC as the license server in the image below, but it would most likely be another client PC):

- End -
