Unable to get tax information

The information you enter in the Data Retrieval Tool (DRT) or on the IRS transcript request form must be entered exactly as it is on your tax return. The name, address, social and filing status must all be the same. If the information that you entered does match exactly, it sometimes can be because the IRS may have a different zip code in their records than what is listed on your personal copy of your taxes. You can try looking up the correct zip code for your address on the Post Office website. Enter your street address and click "Find". Sometimes this will come back with a different zip code or it will have the additional four digits on it. If this is the case, you can use this information on the IRS website to request your tax return transcript by mail. Unfortunately, at this time, the DRT does not allow more than 5 digits for a zip code. You can also try to use the automated phone transcript service at 1-800-908-9946 to receive the transcript by mail or to speak to a representative call 1-800-829-1040. Please be advised you may be on hold for a significant amount of time.
