Nucleus Internal Storage

Nucleus Internal Storage

Nucleus supports placing an HDD or SSD into its case, to create a fully contained solution. If you chose to use an SSD here, the system will stay fully silent. The drive needs to be formatted using the Nucleus web administration interface before it can be used, therefore you should not pre-load it with music content. The entire internal storage drive will be used for music content. If you need subfolders of this disk to not be in Roon, you must connect the drive via USB and choose the folders that you want to use in Roon.

Install the Drive

Visit the detailed installation guide to open up your Nucleus and install the internal storage drive.

Initialize/Format the Drive

The internal storage must be initialized/formatted using the Nucleus web administration interface before it can be used. To start, let's connect to the Nucleus Web Administration Interface. Next, confirm that your drive is shown. If an HDD or SSD is attached to Nucleus's internal SATA connector, you will see the "Internal Music Storage" section in the Web Administration Interface.

If this is missing, it means the drive has not been detected by Roon OS. Next, let's format the drive by clicking the "`Format`" button next to your drive. Roon will not be usable during this time, and it may take up to 10 minutes to format depending on the performance and size of your drive. After the format is complete, the "Internal Music Storage" section in the Web Administration Interface will change to show that it is formatted.

It is normal to lose some storage from the drive's pre-formatted capacity.

Importing Music to Internal Storage

You can easily import files to your Nucleus by simply dragging and dropping files into Roon from one of your remotes:

SMB Connection (Alternate Option)

You can copy music to this drive by visiting the network share:
  1. From a Windows PC
    1. Open File Explorer
    2. Enter \\NUCLEUS\Data\Storage\InternalStorage
    3. If you have issues connecting, please see this article for additional help
  2. From a Mac
    1. Open Finder
    2. Press Command + K
    3. Enter smb://NUCLEUS/Data/Storage/InternalStorage
Be sure to replace NUCLEUS with NUCLEUSPLUS if you have a Nucleus+ If asked for a username and password, use `Guest` for both.

Using the Drive within Roon

After the format is completed, Roon will find this new storage as "`Nucleus Internal Storage`" (or "Nucleus+ Internal Storage") in the storage tab of Settings:

Roon will watch this drive for music files that you copy to it via the network, and automatically import them into your library.
