Powerpoint: We're sorry something went wrong that might make PowerPoint Unstable. Please save your presentations and restart PowerPoint


PowerPoint and/or Google Drive are experiencing conflicts with each other. If you receive the following error "We're sorry something went wrong that might make PowerPoint Unstable" / "Please save your presentations and restart PowerPoint" after attempting to open a PowerPoint downloaded from Google Drive see the solutions below.


Open the PowerPoint from Google Drive installed on your computer or Google File Stream. To do this open PowerPoint and go to File, Open and choose Google Drive or Google File Stream. This error only occurs when downloading (opening or saving) existing PowerPoint from the Internet browsers (Chrome, Firefox, so on).

  1. Download the file

  2. When you get the error message, click anywhere in the error message box but OK"

  3. Hover your mouse on top of Enable Editing. DO NOT TRY TO CLICK IT JUST YET.

  4. Click or hold down, either theor Return/Enter key on the keyboard until the error is gone.

  5. Using the mouse, QUICKLY click on Enable Editing at the top of the PowerPoint

  6. Re-save the PowerPoint by going to File > Save. This will stop all future errors in that PowerPoint only.
