Class meeting settings for Zoom in Canvas

Class meeting settings for Zoom in Canvas

This article lists the recommended settings for Zoom class meetings in Canvas. (Other types of Zoom meetings may have other recommended settings.)

Recurring

Example of a weekly class that meets twice a week for 16-weeks.
Set recurrence according to your posted class schedule.

Registration

Required. This option is not recommended for class meetings as this adds another layer for students to go through before their class meetings.

Security

  1. Passcode is checked by default. This is the recommended security setting for class meetings. It will automatically admit students into the meeting when they click on the meeting link in Canvas-Zoom. Students do not have to enter the passcode when they click on the meeting link in Canvas-Zoom.
  2. Waiting Room is unchecked by default. It is not recommended to use the waiting room for class meetings. Using the Waiting Room for class meetings requires you to manually admit students into the class meeting.
  3. Require authentication to join.
    1. Sign in to Zoom. Admits attendees with a Zoom account (SSC or non-SSC associated). Use when inviting guest speakers from outside of the college.
    2. SSC email addresses only. Admits only attendees who sign into Zoom with a Seminole State College email address.
      1. Students do not have Zoom accounts automatically created for them.
      2. Students can create a free Seminole State College associated Zoom account. More information can be found at Creating your student Zoom account
      3. Students will need to sign-out of their personal Zoom accounts and sign-in to the Seminole State associated Zoom account. More information can be found at Unable to Join a Zoom meeting in Canvas
    3. SSC employees only. Do not use this option for class meetings. Students will not be able to join the meeting.

Meeting Options

  1. Enable join before host. This option is not recommended for class meetings.
  2. Mute participants upon entry. This option is checked by default for class meetings.
  3. Automatically record meeting in the cloud. This option is recommended for class meetings.
  4. Approve or block entry to users from specific regions/countries. This option is not recommended for class meetings.
