Can't start software because the data transfer folder does not exist

Symptoms

When you start the software listed at the bottom of this article you receive a message that the folder specified for Data Transfer files is missing or does not exist. You are unable to continue the software until a valid folder is selected for Data Transfer files.

Cause

When the software starts it checks that each of the folders for the various file locations it uses exist and are valid. If any of them are missing or reference folders that don't exist or that the user does not have access to, the software will display a warning message and require that valid folders are selected.

Workaround

Most of the time this will not be an issue, however there may be times when certain file locations reference a mapped drive or external drive that is not always present. In this case, the folder for those file locations must be temporarily pointed to a folder that does exist, for example the Desktop folder or some other local folder.

Status

This behavior is by design.
