How the Fast Refresh option works

How the Fast Refresh option works

Summary

This article explains how the Fast Refresh option works when refreshing products in the Product Manager.

More Information

When the Solatech Window Covering Software accesses product files, for example when they are using in Order Entry, they must first be converted to XML. Normally this is done on-the-fly if the XML file does not already exist or the XML file is out of date. While the product is converted, which normally only takes 5 to 15 seconds, the system will be unavailable. If you are adding many products to the system and then using them in Order Entry the XML conversion process could be time consuming.

When product files are added to the system during a Product Refresh the XML files are not normally created, however you can enable the conversion of the product files to XML during the Product Refresh by changing a system preference.

To enable the XML conversion during a Product Refresh

  1. From the File menu, click Preferences.
  2. From the page list on the left, click Product Manager.
  3. Uncheck the box "Perform a fast product refresh".
  4. Click OK to close Preferences.
  5. From the Product menu, click Product Manager.
  6. Click the Refresh button. While new products are added the XML conversion progress will be displayed. This will slow down the refresh process.

Note: The XML conversion process only applies to new products (products that are not already in the list). If a product is already in the product list then it's ignored during a product refresh.
