How to delete a company in SWCS 4.2

This article explains how to delete a company created in the Solatech Window Covering Software, version 4.2.

Note: This article is for version 4.2 of the Solatech Window Covering Software. The process to delete a company is different in earlier versions of 4.x.

Starting with version 4.2 Service Pack 1, companies can no longer be deleted from within the Solatech Window Covering Software. To delete a company you must use the Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express.

To see if you have the Management Studio Express software installed, click Start, All Programs, Microsoft SQL Server 2005 and then look for a menu called "SQL Server Management Studio Express". If you don't see this then you probably don't have the studio installed (it's not installed by default).

To install Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express

  1. Download the setup program from http://www.solatechonline.com/software/SQLServer2005_SSMSEE.msi. When prompted to Run or Save, choose Save. Save the file to your Desktop.
  2. Once the download has finished, close all running applications.
  3. Locate the file SQLServer2005_SSMSEE on your desktop and double-click on it.
  4. Follow the instructions of the setup program. Use the default for all options. It should take just a few minutes to install.
  5. Once setup has finished you can delete the file SQLServer2005_SSMSEE from your desktop.

To delete a SWCS company

Deleting a SWCS company is broken into two steps: Detaching the database and then deleting the database files.

Notes

· This must be done from the 'server'; where the database physically resides.

· Once the files are deleted they cannot be un-deleted; they are NOT sent to the recycle

bin.

Detaching the database

  1. Click Start, All Programs, Microsoft SQL Server 2005, SQL Server Management Studio Express.
  2. When prompted to login you will need to select the SQL server that has the SWCS database. Expand the drop down for 'Server name' and select the one with "SOLATECHDB" at the end.
  3. Select "Windows Authentication".
  4. Click Connect.
  5. From the list of items in the Summary pane, double-click on Databases.
  6. Find the database you want to delete. This will be the one with the same name as the company you use in the Solatech Window Covering Software. However, it may have _ instead of spaces. For example if you company is "My Test Company" the database name will be "My_Test_Company".
  7. After selecting it, right-click on it and from the Tasks menu select Detach.
  8. When the Detach Database dialog box opens, click OK. It will take a few seconds to detach.
  9. Close Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express.

Deleting the database files

  1. Run the Solatech Window Covering Software.
  2. If a company is opened, click Close Company from the File menu.
  3. If the Startup dialog box is opened, close it.
  4. From the File menu, click File Manager.
  5. Select the File Type Companies.
  6. In the list of files there are three files for each company database. Look for the files that have the name of the company you want to delete; there will be three of them. Select the first one and from the toolbar click the delete button. Repeat this step for the other two files.
  7. Close the File Manager.
