How to keep your roaming workstation sync process running smoothly

Summary

Your SalesPRO software makes it easy to keep your main office system and your roaming workstation(s) in sync.  In order to maintain a smooth sync process, certain items are requirements (file sharing service, roaming workstation sync agent, stable internet connection)  and other items are highly recommended procedural steps..  This article will discuss each in detail.

Sync Requirements (for both systems)

Note: In instances of multiple in-office users, this only applies to the computer in charge of the Roaming Workstation sync process. if you are not sure which in-office computer that is, please refer to this Knowledge Base Article: How to determine which computer is in charge of the Roaming Workstation Sync Agent.

  • Active Internet Connection (via Ethernet or WiFi)

Note: Sales activities such as creating customers or quotes, converting quotes to orders, previewing output and any other in home sales activities DO NOT require an internet connection.

  • Roaming Sync Agent actively running
    • Look in your system tray (lower right hand corner of window - next to the clock)
    • It will be shown as an icon (image below)


Note:  You may need to expand the items in the system tray, by clicking on the up arrow symbol ^ in order to see the roaming workstation sync agent.

Note:  Roaming Workstations will receive a message in a popup banner to alert them if the sync agent isn't running. 

  • File Sharing Service actively running
    • Look in your system tray (lower right hand corner of windows - next to the clock). 
    • If will be shown as an icon (Below from left to right; Backup and Sync, Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive).


Note:  You may need to expand the items in the system tray, by clicking on the up arrow symbol ^ in order to see the file sharing service icon.

Sync Recommendations

  • Main Office System
    • Computer should be left on overnight, and be set to never sleep.
      • If you need assistance turning off sleep mode in Windows 10, refer to this information from Microsoft: How to disable sleep mode
    • When the main system is turned off or is in a sleep mode, syncing will stop.
    • It is not required to leave SalesPRO software open on the main computer. 
    • Computer monitors may be turned off.  This does not effect the sync process.
    • In instances of multiple in-office users, this only applies to the computer in charge of the Roaming Workstation sync process. if you are not sure which in-office computer that is, please refer to this Knowledge Base Article: How to determine which computer is in charge of the Roaming Workstation Sync Agent.
  • Roaming Workstations
    • Roaming Workstation users should sync all quotes/sales in the afternoon or evening, once they are back in the office or are at home and have a stable internet connection available.
    • Roaming Workstations should leave the PC turned on, not sleeping and connected to the internet for a minimum of 1 hour to ensure that quotes/sales are properly synced.
