How to rename a company in SWCS 4.2

This article explains how to rename a company created in the Solatech Window Covering Software, version 4.2.

More Information

Starting with with Service Pack 1 of the Solatech Window Covering Software 4.2, the process for renaming a company is different than it was in previous versions.

To rename a SWCS company

  1. Run the Solatech Window Covering Software.
  2. If a company is opened, click Close Company from the File menu.
  3. If the Startup dialog box is opened, close it.
  4. From the File menu, click File Manager.
  5. Select the File Type Companies.
  6. On the File Manager toolbar, click the Open Folder button (the button icon at the far right). This will open Windows Explorer to the location of the company files.
  7. From the View menu, click Details.
  8. Click the Name column header to sort the files by name.
  9. Find the file for the company you want to rename. This will be the file with a size between 150 and 250 bytes. It's file extension will be .psd. Ignore the other two files - you can't rename those.
  10. Right-click on this file and select Rename.
  11. Type the new name and click OK.
  12. Close Windows Explorer.
  13. Close File Manager.
  14. From the File menu, click Open Company.
  15. You will see the new renamed company. Select it and click Open.
  16. After logging in, click Company Information from the File menu.
  17. On the General tab, enter the new name of the company.
  18. Click Save and Close.

Note: The database files (the other two files you saw in Windows Explorer but could not rename) do not have to be renamed as users never see those. To rename those you must use the Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express software, however the process to use that application is outside the scope of this article.
