This problem indicates that Windows Firewall, which is installed by default on this computer, is disabled. Any computer that is not running behind a Firewall, software or hardware, is open for attack by other computers.

On some computers it's normal for Windows Firewall to be disabled if another firewall software application is installed.

To enable Windows Firewall on Windows XP

  1. Click Start, Control Panel.
  2. Double-click on the Windows Firewall icon.
  3. On the General tab, click On.
  4. Click OK close the firewall configuration dialog box.

To enable Windows Firewall on Windows Vista

  1. Click Start, Control Panel.
  2. Double-click on the Windows Firewall icon.
  3. Click Change settings. Note: This requires Administrative permission.
  4. On the General tab, click On.
  5. Click OK to close the Windows Firewall Settings dialog box.
  6. Close the Windows Firewall window.
