What is the Accuracy of Trakbond device?

            How accurate is GPS?

GPS satellites transmits their signals in space with a specific precision, but what you get on earth depends upon various factors, including atmospheric conditions, signal blockage, satellite geometry, and receiver design quality.

For an instance: Mostly, GPS-enabled smartphones are usually accurate to within a 4.9 m (16 ft.) radius under clear sky. But their accuracy degrades near bridges, high-rise buildings, and trees.

            Trakbond Device Accuracy
The accuracy of the device is +/-5 meters when the GPS signal strength is good (i.e. connected to 6+ GPS satellites).
However, the accuracy depends on various factors such as weather condition, number of a satellite connection, indoor/outdoor, surrounding high rise buildings etc. Trakbond tracker can be set to use LBS positioning (cellular tower positioning) to send you the location updates of your kid in cases when GPS signal is weak.
Though LBS has inaccuracy from a few meters to hundreds of meters depending on cell tower density, you can still get a rough idea of your kid’s location when they’re indoors.

Why does Trakbond tracker sometimes show me in the wrong place?
The GPS positioning accuracy can be degraded by certain factors. So sometimes you may notice inaccuracy in the position shown by the tracker. Some of the factors that may affect accuracy include:
            1. Satellite signal blockage because of buildings, trees, bridges,
            2. Indoor or basement use
            3. Signals reflected off walls or buildings
            4. Wrongly drawn map
            5. Radio interference

Positioning method used to show current location
Trakbond device used combination of GPS and LBS positioning (cellular tower positioning) depending of availability of signal at any moment of time. So when the device is outdoors and getting good GPS signals, current location shown in the app will be very much accurate. But when the GPS is weak (indoors, bad weather, etc), mobile towers are used to show the current location in the app and the accuracy may vary from few hundred meters to upto kms in worst cases.

Positioning method used by the app to show current location of device can be checked in profile icon in the mobile app. Positioning method symbol is situated at top-right of profile icon.
