What is IFTTT and how does QualityTime use IFTTT to connect to the Internet of Things (IoT) to alert you to smartphone overuse?

IFTTT is a service that lets you create powerful connections with one simple statement: if this then that. With the new QualityTime Channel on IFTTT you can create external alerts (i.e. outside the app) to the Internet of Things (IoT) or your favorite online services when you exceed your device usage limit.

For example, If my daily device usage exceeds (xx min/hour) then (e.g.) blink Philips Hue light several times, send a SMS to someone, post to Facebook, or save a log in Google spreadsheet. If my daily screen unlocks exceeds (xx times) then (e.g.) automatic call to someone, local Android alert, or creating an event log on Google Calendar. You can customize the external alert actions to fit your needs.
